They sell alot of referbished computer equipment. I was happy with the previous purchase of a desktop PC. So I decided to buy a laptop from them also. It took them two weeks before even shipping the product. I was unaware of any problem until I called Ubid asking them why I hadn't received my laptop, my credit card had already been charged successfully at the time of the purchase. They said they could not verify my shipping address with my credit card. I always have shipped products to my work because I am never home to sign for packages and I have never had a problem before with any orders (including prevous Ubid purchases). They said that their policy doesn't allow them to ship my laptop until I changed my address at my bank. This was for "my protection". I responded saying that if I was in fact a hacker, Ubid had already hurt the real card holder because they placed the charge. Anyhow I complied, calling my bank to temporarily change my "home address", just for Ubid to ship my product. Ubid finally shipped the laptop over two weeks late. I am happy with the product. And I applaud Ubid for training its employees to be aware of social engineering. However they are obviously not consistant because they already shipped products in the past to the same address. If nothing else the rep should have aknowlaged this and been able to send the product. Obviously I am very disappointed with Ubid's shipping department and this is such a hassle that it is not likely for me to buy from Ubid again.

I think "Wow, this looks great". But before committing to the auction take a look at that $30 "shipping" charge. What?! How can that $1 usb drive cost $30 to ship while the $150 hard drive is only $7? Me thinks Ubid is hiding product costs in shipping prices. There are still some good deals, but you have to check out the product before you get to see the "real cost". This is especially the case for Ubid auctions starting at $1.

If you have trouble dealing with a company, your best bet may be for you to contact the Better Business Bureau. Post your company complaints on boards like this one to help educate other consumers. You may also want to report bad companies that have deceptive practices to the FTC. Obviously if you find a company is doing a good job, then the best way for you to help the company is the spread the word!

Research companies yourself before doing business with them. It can save you much time, money, and most importantly leave you with a positive customer experience.
