	Pinnacle Rebate Scam

They sell video capture equipment for PCs. I purchased one of their Pinnacle Studio AV/DV PCI cards, with a rebate listed for $100. As you know rebates are a scam to begin with, and Pinnacle Systems was no different. Never the less I made the purchase and mailed in my rebate $100 fully complete. After several months I get a response saying that my rebate is declined because it was purchased outside the rebate promotion's window. I was careful enough at the time of purchase to save the pages listing the product I was buying, including the rebate. It is only several months after the purchase that I learned that Pinnacle Systems regularly switches between rebate fulfillment companies. I suspect, although without evidence, this is a deliborate tactic which confuses customers and allows rebates to fall through the cracks. In any case it turns out that the rebate offer was valid through only one fulfillment company, but that the rebate form which I filled out from the website was addressed to the other company. Pinnacle Systems support said there was no one I could talk to there because the filfillment companies were 100% responsible for rebates, it was out of Pinnacle Systems hands. However the filfillment companies directed me to straiten the matter out with Pinnacle Systems. I was on the phone for well over an hour and it was clear that Pinnacle Systems would not honer their rebate program. It was at this point I filed a complaint with the BBB for false advertising. Shortly there after I heard back from Pinnacle Systems saying they would finally send my $100 rebate check (although very late by now). Pinnacle Systems is a bad company because of dealing with customers in bad faith.

If you have trouble dealing with a company, your best bet may be for you to contact the Better Business Bureau. Post your company complaints on boards like this one to help educate other consumers. You may also want to report bad companies that have deceptive practices to the FTC. Obviously if you find a company is doing a good job, then the best way for you to help the company is the spread the word!

Research companies yourself before doing business with them. It can save you much time, money, and most importantly leave you with a positive customer experience.
