PROS: Picture is remarkably sharp and colorful under normal indoor conditions. There is no visible lag /motion blur. Video capture excellent up to 640x480. CONS: Microphone is worthless with hardly audible even turning volume up completely. Most soundcards have poor amp circuitry, however I've had no problems using other cheap unpowered microphones. So you'll still need to buy a separate mic. Dead pixels!!! This was a big disappointment, I count 3 very visible bright blue pixels. In a busy scene (or against a bright white/blue surface) they are not so visible. However if I cover the lens they stand out against the black. There are more dead pixels that are much less noticeable so I didn't count them. I can erase these by hand if I'm taking pictures, but I can't do much about it when I'm using this as a web-cam. No linux support: I couldn't find any information since I didn't know the chipset...for those who care: idVendor 0x0c45 Microdia idProduct 0x6242 There is a reproducible issue that seems to happen whenever I point it at a solid wall under normal lighting conditions. It flickers rapidly as if going between sensitivity modes. THOUGHTS: The microphone is not USB, but 2.5mm jack. The CD contains only microsoft amcap software. On USB1 machine, resolutions over 800x600 aren't even available for still capture, don't know why. If you're like me, you're looking at this camera because of it's high res capability. However the software forcefully turns down the FPS to 15 at 800x600 (30 isn't selectable). Above 800x600 the FPS drops to 0.5 - 1 FPS, but picture quality isn't affected. I would have looked for another camera had I known about the problems.
