| Contacted CableVision on 2008-04-03 As a Cable Vision customer I frequently get cable tv connection quality problems. It's wierd because it's not constant but fades in and out and the different channels appear to be broadcast at different relative strengths over the wire.
At times it gets bad enough that a channel gets snow for about a minute but then goes away. Additionally with Optimum Online, the connection drops completely several times a day. I might be tempted to blame the computer equipment if I wasn't also having problems with CableVision's TV reception.

| Poor HD quality |

| Contacted CableVision on 2008-04-21 I've noticed this many times at different people's houses. Every time I watch "High Def" television channels, I see extremely blotchy details, especially in dark areas.
I know this is a side effect of JPEG-like algorithms throwing out details as dictated by the compression matrix in order to achieve higher compression. Unfortunately it looks like crap. Standard definition analog televisions never suffered from this particularly distracting artifact. A poor reception may have felt fuzzy, but over all the average picture wasn't too badly effected (unless there are ghost signals).
What's the point of paying for higher quality HD signals if cable companies like Cable Vision don't bother allocating enough bandwidth for channels to look better than SD?

| Contacted CableVision on 2009-10-06 At some point in the past year Optimum Online switched over it's DNS servers to replace NXDOMAIN responses with spam sites.
This is infuriating especially since it affects more than HTTP services. For many apps local network name resolution breaks and returns an invalid ad server IP address.
This is stupid. |

| Contacted CableVision on 2009-10-06 The optimum online internet service has a terrible uptime on Long Island. There is nothing worse than needing to use the internet and discovering that CableVision's internet service is down again. We've been waiting patiently for years for this to be fixed, although the real reason we haven't left is because CableVision is a monopoly.

| Contacted CableVision on 2009-10-10 They sent a technician today to check out the connectivity problems.
He replaced splitters, grounding connections, and did some tinkering at the poll outside the house.
Here's hoping that the intermittent problems will stop now.
If it does, it implies that their line strength diagnostics aren't very valid since the line strength was fine before and after these changes.
